Asin not in 'Marma Yogi'

Denying all the speculations which were saying that Asin would once again share the screen with Kamal Haasan for a cameo role in 'Marma Yogi', the actress has now confirmed that there is no fact in it.

The talented actress who has reached incredible heights in her career co-stars with Salman khan and Ajay Devgan in 'London Dreams' and she has been back to Mumbai recently after completing the shoot for the film for 45 days in London and Paris.

Asin's next venture includes 'The 19th step', produced by Walt Disney, which would have Kamal Haasan and acclaimed Japanese actor Tadanobu. This multi-lingual film which is to be made in Tamil, English and Japanese will be directed by Bharat Bala who has made hundreds of classic commercials and also has directed acclaimed music videos including 'Vande Mataram' and 'Pray for me brother' of Maestro A.R.Rahman.

'The 19th step' will be the first Indian film on martial arts; it speaks about 'Kalaripayattu', which is claimed to be the source of all Oriental martial art forms.

And what is foremost interesting is Asin plays the role of a Japanese princess that can even turn other actresses green with envy.

Asin is sure going places!

Saif Ali and Kareena’s ka public me lip lock kiss

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are the clear choice when it comes to Bollywood’s hottest couple. The duo is seen almost everywhere publicising their affection for each other. Be it, tattooing names or their mere presence at each other’s shoots, the couple has been frank about their relationship to everyone.

But, what you’re going to witness next is an eye- popping feat by the lovebirds. Just recently the couple was seen in a public display of affection before the camera too. The very much in love couple seemed extremely lost and also didn’t hesitate kissing on camera. But, the question is when will we hear wedding bells ringing?

Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan will romance together

Sensuous Deepika Padukone seems to be in love! But hang on she hasn’t split up with beau Ranbir Kapoor rather this dusky beauty will be seen romancing Bollywood hottie Hrithik Roshan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next untitled project.

Reports are that Bhansali has finalised the lead couple and is zeroing on rest of the cast.

But the supposed lead actors are silent over the whole episode as currently Hrithik is busy with his home production Kites and Deepika is engrossed with Saif’s untitled project directed by Imtiaz Ali. Hope this news is true and we get to see this sizzling pair onscreen soon

Aamir Khan Ghajini’s body tattoo gets lady in trouble

Aamir fans went mad when the first look of their favourite actor in his forthcoming flick Ghajini was unveiled on Thursday. But when everyone was busy looking at Aamir’s tattooed body little did anyone know that it actually turned out to be a nightmare for a lady doctor in Kanjumarg.

One of the tattoos from Ghajini happened to be the working phone number of Dr Surekha Verma, who has nothing to do with the film.

The moment these pics were splashed all over TV channels and newspapers she started getting calls and in fact she had to switch off her phone after this.

The doctor received several calls asking for Aamir Khan and she was left clueless. But it was after she happened to see her number sketched on Aamir’s bicep in the newspaper that she realized it.

According to reports, one of the assistant directors of the film wrote a random number as a temporary tattoo on Aamir’s body, which has nothing to do with either Aamir or the film.

Madhur Varma, producer of Ghajini has apologized to the lady and even offered her a new phone connection.

Aamir plays a man who loses his memory after every 15 minutes because of which he writes everything that he needs to remember on his body for quick reference.

Aishwarya Rai charges 1.5 crore for Robot

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has apparently charged a whooping 1.5 crore for her forthcoming project Robot. She will star opposite southern superstar Rajnikant. Interestingly, before the role came to Ash, newcomer Deepika Padukone was approached. She turned down the offer. According to reports, Rajnikant then told the Big B he would like to work with Aishwarya, and Bachchan senior agreed. That makes us wonder if Ash agreed to do the film by choice, or to make her father-in-law happy

Aishwarya Rai signed the film with Rajinikanth called Robot

Aishwarya Rai has reportedly signed the prestigious Shankar film with Rajinikanth, tentatively called Robot.

Our sources insist, the deal was officially signed yesterday afternoon, around 3.30 pm. “The contract was sent to Janak (the Bachchan bungalow in suburban Mumbai) for the Bachchans’ approval, and it was duly signed,” says our source. But that’s not all. Aishwarya Rai is allegedly charging a whopping
Rs 1.5 cr for the film, which was initially meant to be a SRK and Deepika Padukone starrer. The amount, needless to say, will be some sort of a landmark, considering no Rajini heroine has ever commanded such an astronomical fee so far. Shriya Saran was allegedly paid Rs 30 lakh for Sivaji.

Meanwhile, there seems to be some controversy around the title of this film.

Well, we all know the deal with tax exemption on movies with Tamil titles. So if you were wondering if Shankar was going to stick with Robot and incur the extra expense, you were wrong. The director has announced that Robot will soon be given a different name – a Tamil name at that. Since the movie is budgeted at Rs 120 crores, it makes absolute sense to cut these extra costs.

Shankar has also mentioned that this movie of his, being a sci-fi adventure, will depend largely on the visual effects, which may require a lot of time. But for Rajini fans, time won’t be an issue because Kuselan will be out later this year to keep them well entertained.

Shooting for Kuselan will start in February and the movie will hit screens post-June. Shooting for Robot will commence in July and the movie will hit the theatres, Well, let’s wait and watch.

Deepika Padukone might star opposite Rajinikanth in Robot

After a dream debut with Bollywood Badshaah Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone appears set to take the Southern film industry by storm by possibly grabbing a role opposite Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in the big-budget film Robot.

Padukone’s name is “on the top of the list of contenders for heroine” in the Rs 100-crore venture by director Shankar, sources in the film production unit here said.

Shankar, who directed last year’s runaway hit Sivaji - The Boss also starring Rajinikanth, has already teamed up with the renowned music composer AR Rehman for the film.

The 22-year-old model-turned-actress has received the Star Screen award for “most promising newcomer” and Stardust “Superstar of Tomorrow”" award.

Going by the mantra that actresses make a dent in Kollywood(Tamil film industry) after starring opposite Rajinikanth or Kamal Hassan, the media began the buzz about Deepika acting in Robot.

The speculation earlier was that Shah Rukh Khan would play the lead in the the film, to be made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, before Shankar succeeded in getting the Tamil matinee idol to agree.

Genre: Animation
Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Javed Jaffery, Sanjay Mishra
Music: Salim Merchant & Sulaiman Merchant

Story - screenplay - dialogues - direction: Jugal Hansraj

Review
Story

Romeo (Saif Ali Khan) is a dog that is abandoned by its masters because they move abroad and has no place to go. He is a good hair stylist. He befriends a few people and starts a salon. He meets Laila (Kareena Kapoor) on one night and falls in love with her. Charlie Anna (Javed Jaffery) is the local don who is also after Laila. In a precarious situation Romeo promises Charlie that he would make sure that Laila falls in love with him. The rest of the story is all about how all ends well.

Actors:
Saif Ali Khan is cool with his voice for Romeo character. Kareena dubbed the voice of Laila, but you hardly have any dialogues for Laila. Javed Jaffery is a scene-stealer with his dubbing for Charlie Anna character. His Tamil accent and funny English (like how he did for Salaam Namaste) add variety. Sanjay Mishra tickles your funny bones with his dubbing for Charlie’s Chamcha character.

Technical departments:

Story - Screenplay - direction: Story of the film is weak. Screenplay is just average. Direction is OK in parts. When you don’t have a strong story, you should come up with cute things to weave the screenplay. The concept of Charlie’s Angels (Silk Sunita, Nylon Nalini & Polyester Padmini) is good. The climax of the film where the villainy shifts from Charlie Anna to municipality employees is unappealing. The director must have worked on some innovative scenes regarding Romeo making Charlie Anna a fool regarding setting him up with Laila.

Other technical departments: Music is alright. Cinematography is nice. The animation work by TATA Elexi is of world standards.

Analysis: We are used to watching many cartoons on TV for decades. There had been a series of great animation films made in Hollywood. Those films were also lapped up with Indian viewers. Hence it becomes extremely difficult to make an animation film in India unless it is rooted to India to the core. Otherwise, we might compare the stories like Roadside Romeo with that of Hollywood. For example, Hanuman became a blockbuster because it is an Indian story. When it comes to Roadside Romeo, the story is weak and there are not many hilarious moments. The intention of making a full-length animation by Yashraj films must be wholeheartedly appreciated. But, Roadside Romeo does not come anywhere near Hollywood animation films in terms of humor and emotions. But, you may watch it for the efforts of the makers and the voices of Saif Ali Khan and Javed Jaffery. Kids will like this film.

Story

Blade Babji (Allari Naresh) is a pickpocket who takes up the mission of earning 4 crores to rescue the slum dwellers in his area from a builder. He and his gang go to Vizag and rob a bank. And they hide the loot in a building under construction. They were forced to go away for a month and when they return they find a police control room at the spot where they hidden their loot. In order to retrieve the loot, Blade Babji takes the position of newly joined Krishna Manohar (spoof of Pokiri) by kidnapping him. The rest of the story is all about the comedy of errors that followed.

Artists Performance

It is a typical character for Allari Naresh and he entertains. Actress Sayali Bhagat is adequate. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam is good. This film has all comedians like Brahmananda, Krishna Bhagawan, Melkote, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and Venu Madhav. They all have interesting roles in the film.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - direction: Basic storyline of the film is inspired by a Hollywood film called Blue Streak (1999). A few scenes from this film are also borrowed. This film runs on comedy of errors and the director could come up with a decent screenplay. Direction is adequate. The director could able to generate continuous laughs. The spoofs of Pokiri and Tammudu are good.

Other departments: : Music is mediocre. This film does not need songs. Cinematography is just average. Dialogues are good. Production values should have been better.

Analysis: Inspired by Blue Streak (1999), the director Devi Prasad could able to generate entertainment with decent screenplay and good comedy timing. Blade Babji sports entertainment value and mass orientation. This film would do really well in B and C centers and may fare decently in A centers. You may watch ‘Blade Babji’ for some comic relief.

Karz review

Jeevi rating: 2.25/5
Punchline: lacks soul
Banner: T-Series
Genre: Drama/Musical
Cast: Himesh Reshammiya, Urmila Matondkar, Danny Denzongpa, Gulshan Grover, Rohini Hattangadi, Shweta Kumar & Dino Morea
Music:Himesh Reshammiya
Cinematography: Manoj Soni
Direction: Satish Kaushik
Producer: Bhushan Kumar & Krishan Kumar
Release date: 17 October 2008

Review
Story

Ravi Varma (Dino Morea) is the heir of estates and huge property abroad. He falls in love with Kamini (Urmila Matondkar). Kamini kills Ravi Varma after marriage and she gets all his properties. 25 years later, Monty (Himesh Reshammiya) – a young rock star – gets flashback of his reincarnation and realizes that he is Ravi Varma in his past life. The rest of the story is all about how he gets back to his family (sister and mother) and takes revenge on aging Kamini.

Actors:
Himesh Reshammiya is alright. He grew his hair a lot. He is good as the rock star, but little weak when it comes to emotions. New girl Shweta Kumar is just average. Urmila Matondkar suited the role of an aging woman who falls for a guy of half of her age. Danny Denzongpa is pretty effective as Good Samaritan. Gulshan Grover's character is pretty vague. Dino Morea looks gorgeous. Rohini Hattangadi is adequate.

Technical departments:

Story - Screenplay - direction: This film is an official remake of Subhash Ghai's 1980 classic 'Karz' which in turn is inspired by 'The reincarnation of Peter Proud' (1975). Since it was the remake of a musical blockbuster, we are not supposed to question the logics. You can't even credit the director of screenplay and story because they are adapted. When it comes to direction, there is no consistency in it. There is more eagerness on the director to play it to the galleries than narrating the film in a convincing way. For example, when heroine forgets the lines of the song, our hero would be prompting her from a buzzing helicopter. Instead of taking the basic point and developing it, the director tried to take the screenplay that was best suited for 80's Hindi films.

Other technical departments: Music of the film is an asset. Music of this film is so popular that the youth crowd in theaters giving cat calls by asking hero to sing a song when he is busy enacting serious scenes. Cinematography is nice and locations are good. Most of the film takes place in South Africa and Kenya. Dialogues are adequate. Art work for the songs is good.

Analysis: Director Satish Kaushik could borrow the story and screenplay of Subhash Ghai's Karz (1980), but he could not recreate the soul. Looks like, they attempted this film after observing the success of Om Shanti Om last year. The only saving grace of this film is songs. On a whole, Karzzzz lacks soul.
